Abstract

The aim of this research is to bring a practical solution, from the media literacy perspective, to the problem that the high content of televised violence could bring to children. Three topics were researched: (a) Children and TV, (b) violence in TV and (c) media literacy.Looking forward to frame under the light of the knowledge arisen of the studies of these research lines and thus offer as a result a proposal of media literacy focused to improve the TV consumption habits of the children and to offer their parents and teachers tools and strategies to counteract the possible negative effects of viewing violence in the television.The topics that develop under the perspective of media literacy as a result of this research are: 1) Children’s TV habits and preferences, 2) Some considerations on TV production and 3) The televised violence and their negative portraits.
